A paper that looks at China from outside
China as the foreign press reports it.
Waijing · Inaugural number. Not a news report.
Waijing is a daily newspaper about China. Its rule is short. It reports China as the foreign press reports it, and it does not report China as China's own press reports it.
Xinhua, People's Daily, China Daily, CGTN and Global Times do not enter the newsroom. Neither does the South China Morning Post, nor a Taipei paper. If a fact lives only there, this paper does not have it.
Nine desks read the foreign wire: Beijing, Shanghai, the Pearl River, Hong Kong, the interior, the west, Xinjiang and Tibet, the strait, and abroad. A desk that finds nothing on its beat files nothing. The page is allowed to be short.
This number is the inaugural sheet. It describes the paper. It is not an account of events in China. The first wired edition replaces it.
Waijing does not cite newsrooms in mainland China, Hong Kong, or Taiwan.
